Your 1st Massage? Here Is What To Expect:

Types of Massage:

There are many types of massage, techniques and strokes. Each therapist creates their own style and movement. Massage should not be painful. If the pressure or the technique of a particular stroke is discomforting to you, please communicate with your therapist immediately, so a different approach may be taken. Massage is most effective when your body is resting.

This Therapist Offers:

Swedish Relaxation, Deep Tissue, Reflexology (foot massage), Lomi-Lomi ( Hawaiin Massage), Myofacial Release, Connective Tissue, Neuromuscular Therapy, Trigger Point Therapy, Hydrotherapy, Sports Massage, and more.

Length of Your Massage Session:

Most sessions last anywhere from 30, 60, and 90 minutes. The average full-body session lasts approximately 1 hr. and will include massaging your head, neck, shoulders, arms, hands, back, legs, and feet. A 30 min. session might include massage in a more specific area or an area where you are currently holding stress and tension. Please remember to allow 5 minutes for prep time (getting dressed and undressed). This means the massage will last 25, 55, or 85 minutes. A massage session may be "tailored" to fit your needs and help you get the best results.

Health Form:

Before your massage begins, you will be asked to fill out an intake form and read a compliancy statement. It is important that the therapist is aware of any conditions requiring attention. Before each session, always keep your therapist updated of any changes in your health and new medications. For your first session you should arrive early in order to fill out the intake form.

Therapists maintain health profiles and records on every client in order to help create with them a personal care plan that is right for their needs. This also helps to keep them informed of their client’s future massage needs.

Clothing:

Massage is usually performed with the client unclothed; however, you undress to your own comfort level. You will be covered at all times with a sheet or blanket. Only the area being massaged by the therapist will be uncovered.

During Your Massage:

Make yourself as comfortable as possible. Close your eyes and concentrate on taking deep breaths. This will help you relax. Feel free to ask your therapist any questions you may have during the massage. Keep communication open, as this will help to ensure you get the most out of your massage.

If you are getting a massage for feel-good relaxation (Swedish, Lomi-Lomi, Hot Stone), there should be little or no talking. For deep tissue work the therapist will probably be checking in with you to make sure you are tolerating the work and to remind you to breathe and relax.

As the client, you control the massage - talk / no talk - music / no music / different music - scents / no scents - deeper / lighter. If you are in any way uncomfortable - speak up. Don't ever suffer in silence. Make your wishes known.

After the Massage:

You should drink plenty of water to flush the toxins out of your system. If you have access to a steam room or whirlpool, they are ideal ways to continue cleansing the system.

For the 24 hours after a deep tissue massage you may feel a little sore or achey. This is a normal response - a lot of stuff gets stirred up and that feeling is a healing response. It should go away within 24 - 36 hours. Rest, healthy eating and fluids will help minimize the response.

Also to help minimize next day soreness you can ice the affected area for ten minutes at a time or you can alternate Ice and heat every ten minutes.

 * Warning *

Sexual misconduct of any kind will absolutely not be tolerated. If the client exhibits any inappropriate behavior the massage will be over immediately and the FULL PRICE of the client's scheduled massage will be charged no matter how long the massage lasted. Furthermore, no future appointment attempts by the said client will be accepted.
